Almost three months after being drafted by Greater Western Sydney, the athletic youngster said his focus was firmly set on gaining the respect of his coaches and teammates.
“It’s really going well at the moment,” Marchbank, 18, said at Trinity College in Thurgoona yesterday.
“I’m training away and slowly building up my fitness.
“There is a good atmosphere at the club and I feel really comfortable.”
While the hard work hasn’t surprised Marchbank, he admits the length of the days at training caught him off guard when he arrived at the club in early December.
“I probably came with a mindset of maybe the hours not being as long each day,” he said.
“It tested me out for a few weeks. I didn’t realise how full on it was, it’s really a 7am to 4.30pm job.
“That’s probably the main thing I wasn’t ready for.”
Marchbank, who was picked up with selection No. 6 in the draft, will join the main group later this month after being on a restricted program due to knee surgery last year.
“My body is feeling good. I have done the rehab on my knee and hopefully I’ll join the main group soon,” he said.
“The first-year players are held back a bit as well, so it will be good to step it up a bit further.”
