Despite the Ovens and Murray season being less than six weeks away, Pigeon co-coach Brendan Fevola said yesterday O’Connor would be given all the time he needed to make a call on whether he would line-up for a fifth season at J.C. Lowe Oval.
O’Connor has been inundated by offers from Murray, Picola and Tallangatta and District league clubs while at least one rival Ovens and Murray club sounded out the former Robinvale star.
“We’re leaving Brad alone,” Fevola said.
“He’s getting married soon, has a new business and is building a new house so he’s got a fair bit on his plate at the moment.
“There’s no rush from our point of view.
“He keeps himself pretty fit.”
O’Connor has been a consistent performer for Yarrawonga since arriving from Sunraysia league heavyweight Robinvale.
He kicked 50 goals as the Pigeons’ main focal point in 2011 before being pushed up the ground following the arrival of Fevola the following season.
O’Connor kicked 29 majors in 2012, 47 in 2013 and 33 last season.
Fevola was optimistic key defender Marcus McMillan, who has been wooed by former club Strathmerton, would also be playing for the Pigeons.
“‘Motor’s (McMillan) been down to training, which is good,” he said.
“Even Tim Cooper has trained and it’s only February.”
Yarrawonga will play Therry Penola All Stars for the Ricky Bannister Cup on March 7 before taking on VFL club Coburg on March 14 and Balwyn on March 21.
Fevola is confident the Pigeons will be ready for their round 1 clash against Wangaratta Rovers at Mulwala’s Lonsdale Reserve.
