The club, which boasts just under 500 members, was named the club of the year, as well medium club of the year.
Gymnastics coach Meg Clark said it was gratifying for the club to get recognition in a sport traditionally dominated by metropolitan-based clubs.
“Clubs outside Melbourne are often forgotten about because, as with us, they’re so far away,” Clark said.
“We’re really thankful for the award, we have to travel a lot for competitions and other events, so this award really does mean a lot to us.”
The coaching team of Clark, Rachael Williams, Georgina Mitchell and Goele Schmitz were finalists in the coaching team of the year category, while Williams was named regional coach of the year.
After coaching for more than nine years, Williams said getting the nod as coach of the year was unexpected.
“I started when I was 14, I felt like I was getting a little bit old but I didn’t want to stop being involved with gymnastics, so coaching was an obvious choice,” she said.
