Kade Wilson’s knock of 75 guided Corowa to its first win this year, but Jarrod Lane’s men were on the edge of their seat in the dying minutes of the game.
Yarrawonga’s Angus McMillan claimed two wickets in a row with scores level, with Yarrawonga threatening to snatch victory from Corowa’s hands.
In came No. 11 Jack Pieri, who, with the pressure well and truly on, calmly glanced his first ball to the boundary to seal the game.
Lane said he was impressed with the way his team had fought back after a lean few weeks.
“It was a really good win, we did a lot of the things we said we’d do ahead of the game,” Lane said.
“Kade’s innings was superb, it allowed us to build a couple of partnerships.”
The win ends a run of losses for Corowa, which has endured a rotten spell of washouts and losses since round six.
The final round of the WDCA is set to be a classic, with Corowa’s victory enough to bump Bruck out of the top four, even after their win over the now fourth-placed City Colts.
Bruck’s 257-run benchmark proved too much for the Colts, who could only muster 181 in reply.
Man of the match Jon Hyde followed up his prolific score of 91 to tear through the Colts batsmen, taking 6-36 from 17 overs.
Bruck’s finals hope now depend on the outcome of next week’s matches.
In other games on the weekend, the Wanderers enjoyed a thumping win over the Saints, with Josh Newton almost singlehandedly winning the game for Beechworth.
Myrtleford had no answer to Newton, who took 8-17 from 15 overs, including five maidens.
The Magpies missed out on their chance for outright points against Rovers United, with the Rovers rallying from last week’s second innings score of 2-6, scoring 196.
The fightback was led by Blake Nixon (61) and Mark Drage (66), who put together a 117-run partnership.
