Firefighters were called to a blaze on former railway line land near Ethel Street about 12.30am yesterday.
Emergency services were called to the same site a week earlier as a fire burnt grass and trees, with children seen running from the area.
A nearby resident, who asked for her name to be withheld, said she was concerned about fire spreading to her home.
“My little dog was barking and I look out the front and could see two huge lights,” she said.
“A short time later there were flashing lights.
“These fires are getting concerning, it’s worrying.”
The woman said there had been a spate of fires in the area several years ago.
“People can walk along the old railway line and you don’t know what’s going on behind the bushes,” she said.
Wodonga firefighter Matthew Johnson said while grass and scrub was fairly green with recent rain, it would still burn fairly quickly.
“It’s not only putting the public at risk but it ties up resources that could be responding to a life and death situation,” he said.
“The fire danger rating is very high.
“The danger isn’t over just yet and we don’t want people to be complacent about that.”
Detective Senior Constable Justin Foots said the fires appeared to be deliberately lit.
“We haven’t found any reasons for ignition, and it’s deemed suspicious with the second fire in the same location,” he said.
