McDonough, 39, of Stephen Street, North Albury, has been sentenced in the District Court at Albury to one year and 11 months on a charge of possessing more than three unregistered firearms with one being a prohibited pistol.
Judge David Arnott imposed a minimum term of one year and two months expiring on November 27 and a fixed one-month term for manufacturing a prohibited weapon.
Police applied for a search warrant on August 27 and executed it at 8am the following morning at McDonough’s home.
The court was told officers found five rounds of ammunition and a Taser.
McDonough admitted he had made the Taser and demonstrated how it worked.
Four rifles were found under a lounge and a double barrel shotgun was in a bag in an open cabinet.
Police also found a .177 air rifle and a rusted antique eight-shot .22 revolver in a container.
Three double-barrel shotguns were under a lounge on the verandah of a shed and McDonough told police about them.
He was arrested and interviewed.
McDonough admitted owning all the guns apart from one and the Taser.
He said the guns had belonged to a friend who had died and he was holding them until the man’s family decided what to do with them.
McDonough said he got the pistol from the river.
It was corroded and not in working condition with missing components including the trigger.
