Budding Border basketballers will soon get the chance to see, with Jackson announcing the first of her LJ15 Elites basketball camps to be held in Albury.
Jackson, along with two-time WNBL most valuable player Katrina Hibbert and former NBL forward Cam Rigby, will host the intensive two-day camp at Scots School Albury on April 9 and 10.
The Albury native is still recovering from yet another bout of knee surgery but Jackson said she “couldn’t wait” to start working with the next batch of potential champions.
“Being an Albury girl, I’ve wanted to run camps here for a long time,” Jackson said.
“The opportunity came up after the surgery; I knew I was going to be here for a while and it happened to be over the school holidays.
“So we’re holding a camp and I can’t wait.
“I’ll be there for both days running the show, there’s a lot of experience there and I’ll be working one-on-one with as many kids as possible.”
In what Jackson hopes will be the first of many, the camp is open to any junior players aged 10 to 17, regardless of their level of ability.
For Jackson, the camp won’t just be about on-court potential, with a focus on leadership and Jackson’s experiences making her way from Albury to the WNBA.
“Hopefully we’ll have around 100 kids attending,” Jackson said.
“And we’ll give them everything we’ve got over those two days.
“It’s a really great opportunity — both for me to get to know some of the local kids and talent and then also to say that I’ve done something here in Albury.
“Being a regional athlete and having had the career I’ve had, I think it’s important to be visible and to come back here and teach young kids and give them my experiences.
“There’ll be times during the camp to talk and to ask questions and it’s important they hear from my own lips what it was like to be a young kid from Albury coming up through the ranks.
“I’d like to run more camps, here in Albury in particular, I’ve always been an Albury-only girl and I’d like to do as many of these here as I can.”
