While working on the redevelopment of Albury’s art gallery, Zauner Construction has made a portable shower available for use after seeing demand from those least fortunate members of our community.
More than 150 homeless people have used the shower in the grounds of St Matthew’s Church over the past year and Archdeacon Peter MacLeod-Miller wants to extend the arrangement to make it permanent.
He says the temporary shower has effectively enabled a trial of the idea, and there is no doubt it has been a success.
St Matthew’s Crisis Care is now getting quotes to install a shower in the toilet block on its grounds.
The group has been assisted by the support of the community, with the donation of towels and toiletries, such as toothbrushes, shampoo and toothpaste.
Kudos must go to Zauner for the role it has played in assisting Albury’s homeless.
A shower may be a simple thing we take for granted but to someone who is sleeping on the streets, it must be the most luxurious thing in the world.
