In a sad indictment of the times we live in, the attack was filmed and posted online.
Police were called to the scene of the incident at Volt Lane car park about 3.30pm last Thursday, and were handed footage by a member of the public.
The investigation is under way.
There’s certainly an irony in the fact that by filming the incident, the bullies concerned were looking for an audience to show how tough they were in launching a pack attack on one defenceless girl.
Several can be clearly identified in the footage that now lies in the hands of police.
It’s sad and sick that not one among the crowd was prepared to come to the girl’s defence but in typical bully style, they only stand strong when no one is prepared to stand up to them.
We can only really hope that anyone with information comes forward, and that the victim is offered the support and protection she deserves, not only from friends and family but from the entire community.
Watch the bullies go to water when the crowd is on the other side.
