The case was raised briefly in the Wodonga Magistrates Court yesterday morning.
Andrew Oakley, 43, has not entered a plea to a charge of intentionally and recklessly causing serious injury.
Oakley was in the Wodonga court precinct when his case was called, but he did not actually appear before magistrate William White for the hearing.
His lawyer believed it was likely Oakley was in a meeting room elsewhere in the building, so would not have heard his case called over the court’s public address system.
The police prosecutor told Mr White the informant in the case would require at least another eight weeks to complete his brief.
He requested the matter be adjourned until after May 15.
Oakley was further bailed to appear again in Wodonga on June 11 for the committal mention.
The charge relates to an incident in the Woolworths car park at White Box Rise in Wodonga on February 21 in which the victim, 53, was allegedly left for dead.
The victim, of Wodonga, was taken to hospital in a critical condition after he was assaulted about midnight.
