Previously trained by David Hayes and Tom Dabernig at Euroa, Bono Vox made an impressive debut for the Cavanough stable when winning first-up from a 23-week spell at Albury last Friday.
Although facing a tougher test tomorrow, Cavanough said the $30,000 feature looked a winnable race which lacked the depth of previous years.
“On paper it looks like a level playing field,” Cavanough said.
“There are a few horses resuming, a few older horses and no real young shining lights in the field.
“Bono Vox has a couple of city wins to his credit so he has got a touch of class.
“He had some ordinary form before I got him but had a nice little break and has come back nice and sharp.
“He scored a pretty good win first-up.
“But there it too much prizemoney on offer to think about dodging the race.”
Before joining the Cavanough stable, Bono Vox scored his most recent win at Sandown in May almost two years ago.
Since then the six-year-old has been racing predominantly in the city and will appreciate the drop in grade.
“You wouldn’t think the pressure would go on as early in a Corowa Cup as it does in the city,” he said.
“If he measures up tomorrow like I expect him to, he could be my Albury Gold Cup smokey.
“He is such a versatile galloper he could run in the Albury Mile, the Albury Cup or even handle the 2400m of the Adrian Leger Memorial.
“He is a bit of joker in the pack for me really.”
Cavanough said he would mostly likely have a three-pronged attack in the Albury Gold Cup with Price Of Glory first-up, alongside Game Of Shadows and possibly Bono Vox.
Game Of Shadows faces the toughest test of his career in tomorrow’s Canberra Cup.
Stablemates Corsica Lad, The Monstar, Lampedusa and Stick With Me will also race at the meeting.
Cavanough has snapped-up the services of ace jockey Hugh Bowman for Corsica Lad who could also contest $100,000 SDRA Country Championships Qualifier (1400m) at Wagga next Sunday.
