The words for My darling Mum and Dad came from what she knew about the World War I experiences of her grandfather.
“My grandfather and his two brothers were all in that war,” she said.
The song has been produced to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the Gallipoli landings.
Mrs Naylor, who lives at Waldara just outside of Wangaratta, said it didn’t take long to write.
“It was all in my head, I just wrote it down,” she said.
Mrs Naylor’s co-writer was Chris Wilson, continuing a partnership that has produced many songs over the past six years.
“I would like people to hear it for Anzac Day this year for the centenary,” she said.
“I’d like them to have a real understanding of what it was like for these young men who gave so much for this country.”
Mrs Naylor said she was “absolutely thrilled” with the finished product.
“It’s in the form of a letter written back home, from a horrific war zone to the peaceful shores of Australia,” she said.
“It’s of a young man writing to his parents, telling them what was happening along the way.”
Mrs Naylor said the song was “exceptionally moving”.
“I deliberately wanted Chris to do some of it in that monologue style to make it powerful.
“Every time I listen to it I still get chills up my spine.”
Mrs Naylor got started in her craft when she entered the Australian Songwriters’ Association Awards about seven years ago.
“I got lyrics for three songs into the top 25 in Australia,” she said.
“But then I thought I’ve got to find a co-writer and I found Chris, who’s a producer, and we’ve just worked together ever since.
“We have received great accolades for our songs, we write in many genres and all of our work has been extremely well received.”
My darling Mum and Dad will be soon available on the independent music website CD Baby and iTunes.
