Farrer MP Sussan Ley said yesterday the money was for the company’s performances this year at the Australia in Turkey Cultural Festival.
The $49,450 grant was one of three confirmed by Arts Minister George Brandis for leading Australian arts companies.
The others were for the Australian World Orchestra and Queensland Show Choir.
The circus has been invited to perform its show Circus Under My Bed in Istanbul and Ankara.
Ms Ley said the Fruit Flies would also take part in several community workshops and artistic and cultural exchanges.
“The grant will enable a group of 16 to travel from Albury-Wodonga to Turkey, to show- case their extraordinary circus performance skills, in the trip and experience of a lifetime,” she said.
Ms Ley said the Australia in Turkey Cultural Festival would present Turkish audiences with a contemporary face of Australian culture, “showcasing the rich diversity of our innovative and multicultural nation.”
The festival will run from September to December.
It coincides with the 100th anniversary of the Gallipoli landings.
