Transpacific Cleanaway and Albury mayor Kevin Mack yesterday launched the new three-bin system, addressing questions already posed by residents related to bin odour and capacity.
Nina McHardy, from Transpacific Cleanaway, says the system has been rolled out successfully in other regions and solutions would be found for those families where waste bins were not big enough to meet their needs.
The big challenge for the wider community will be understanding exactly what can and cannot be placed in each of the bins.
Most residents have lived with the yellow-lidded recycling bin for long enough to be reasonably comfortable with what it should contain.
But requirements for the green-lidded green waste bin have changed. It will now include any organic waste such as food scraps and will be collected weekly.
Many are seeing red over the red-lidded bin that will now only contain non-recyclable rubbish and will be collected each fortnight. The problem with that is the non-recyclables include odorous waste such as baby’s nappies.
