It is stated there will be seven new raised zebra crossings in Wodonga’s CBD, I thought these were called wombat crossings?
In any case, they are, I presume, to be pedestrian crossings to further “pedestrianise” the city.
Why not just get rid of all vehicles in Wodonga’s CBD and be done with it?
It appears one councillor has gone against council officers’ recommendations and moved that the councillors know better than their staff and provided for the traffic lights’ removal.
The same councillor has gone on to say: “Traffic is already moving slower on High Street and that’s fantastic — it is not a thoroughfare”.
A street is in fact a thoroughfare.
This councillor also compares Wodonga with Dean Street, Albury; I would more compare it with the Five Ways at Lavington.
It is not Dean Street, and never will be.
Albury CBD has several streets where you can avoid Dean Street, and the CBD for that matter; Wodonga does not.
If your are heading north from southern Wodonga, especially from the areas adjacent to Beechworth Road, you have to use, re-join or cross High Street at some stage, unless you go to Bandiana in the east or Howlong in the west.
And you can tell the closure of Hovell Street, Wodonga is still on the councillors’ minds.
On naming the new park in Junction Place, perhaps Train Wreck Park is a good name, just to match the way High Street looks and is performing at the moment.
But seriously, I suggest the park name should be something in honour of a person who was a resident of Wodonga and gave his/her life in the service of the railways.
