Goldman, who will saddle-up his first Albury Cup runner in Faust, said while any of the top-five saddle cloths could win without surprising, Self Sense was a deserved favourite.
“I think the top-five horses are all chances but as always luck in running will play a major role,” Goldman said.
“But in saying that Self Sense looks the horse we all have to beat.
“The form is almost impossible to line-up because all the horses are coming into the race from different paths.”
In a strong form pointer, Faust was a winner of the Canberra Cup earlier this month before running unplaced at Rosehill on the weekend.
Canberra Cup winners have strong recent form in the Albury feature with Coliseo running second two year’s ago and Jacquinot Bay third last year.
Burbero who finished second in the Canberra feature alongside Permit who finished unplaced have since won at Rosehill to further frank the form.
Goldman said having Faust on the quick back-up after running seventh in group 3 company over 2400 metres on Saturday was not a concern.
“I couldn’t be happier with the horse leading into the race,” he said.
“Most of his runs have been spaced this preparation but I don’t think the quick back-up is going to hurt him at all.
“Dropping back to the 2000 metres is in his favour and the way the race was run at Rosehill last week didn’t really suit the horse.”
Sam Clipperton makes the trek from Sydney to partner Faust who is on the third line of betting and a $6-chance.
Goldman said Faust was a versatile horse that could adapt to however the race was run.
“If they want to go slow he can race handy to the pace,” he said.
“But if they get running along he can relax in a race and sit off the speed.
“He is not a sit-sprint horse but likes to get out get rolling from the half-mile.
“As long as we get some clear galloping room, he should be right in the finish.”
