THE introduction of Murray United has had an effect on the AWFA, but the overall standard of play in the competition hasn’t fallen at all, Boomers captain-coach Andrew Grove says.

“It’s affected us a little bit, we didn’t have many go to United, but the flow-on effect is there through the reserves,” Grove said.
“Our numbers aren’t great to start with so we’re a little bit limited.
“It has to affect the league, taking out the best 40 or so players is obviously going to have some sort of impact.
“But I don’t think it’s had as big an effect as some people thought it would coming into the season.
“The football I’ve watched has been just as good as it was.
“The ability to score one or two more goals is affected a little bit, but on a broader scale I think the competition is in excellent shape.”
Wanderers coach Henry Wilhelm was in agreement, saying Twin City were well supported by the depth in their reserve grades.
“Our seconds and thirds played in the finals last year, and I think they’ll figure again,” he said.
“We have some excellent players we can call on, but hopefully there’s no injuries or suspensions and we can get the seniors settled.”
