Some things don't change, however. Heidelberg United v South Melbourne, now a clash in the National Premier League Victoria, is still the "Greek Derby".
Or at least the main one. With so many clubs in the second tier of every state still backed by the immigrant groups who founded them and gave them their identity, there are several "Greek" derbies. But the Bergers v South is likely to generate the most interest.
On a sunny Sunday afternoon at the old Olympic Village, the two clubs shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw, Milos Lujic opening the scoring early in the first half for the visitors and Kane Sheppard levelling for the hosts in the second period.
The result means that both have moved up the table, but it is still one of the other powerbrokers from the old days, Melbourne Knights, who are top of the league.
The Knights won 2-1 against Werribee City on Sunday to take their seasonal record to five wins from five outings. Their 15 points gives them a three-point buffer over last season's FFA Cup giantkillers Bentleigh Greens and Hume City, 2-0 winners over Dandenong Thunder on the same afternoon.
South's point against Heidelberg lifts them into a share of third spot alongside Green Gully.
