In a huge boost to the club’s chances of going deep into September, Banks will travel back to the Border each weekend while working in Wollongong.
“I was training with Western Suburbs in Sydney and just couldn’t bring myself to commit to another club,” he said.
“It was that simple really.
“We have picked up a few recruits, kept the list together pretty well and I just wanted to be a part of it.
“I can’t wait.”
The dangerous half-forward will train with Wollongong Bulldogs and plans to play every match of the Ovens and Murray season, starting with Lavington’s season opener against Corowa-Rutherglen at John Foord Oval on Saturday.
The Panthers have also picked up Echuca defender Matt Hay.
Hay, who has played about 50 matches for the Goulburn Valley league club, has moved to the Border for university and impressed in a recent practice match against Benalla.
Henty co-coach Jamarl O’Sullivan is also set to be released from his contract in time to play against the Roos.
O’Sullivan has played in the ruck in the Panthers’ past two practice matches and gives the club a bigger body to help Tom Yensch and Nick Meredith.
Meanwhile, Panther forward Justin Koschitzke kicked five goals in a one-off appearance for Cora Lynn in the Ellinbank and District league at the weekend.
He played alongside his former St Kilda teammate Austinn Jones in the 27-point win.
