People who live on the street told The Border Mail they had seen several cases of road rage due to hoon behaviour.
Five residents were asked about speeding and each said it was a concern shared by their neighbours.
Brian Petts, who has lived on the road for 42 years, noticed a change in driver behaviour during the recent Top Five campaign by Albury Council and police.
He said drivers slowed down when police and speed boards were seen.
“At night they go flying past, they absolutely tear through,” he said.
“I think for the average person, when they see the speed boards it does make them think and slow down.
“The campaign was a great idea, the first thing you do is check your speedo when you see the boards.”
Police targeted Vickers, Douglas and Logan roads and Watson and East streets from March 4 to 22 after they were nominated as the top five speeding hotspots.
In that time, 47 motorists were caught speeding, with two travelling more than 45km/h over the limit.
Resident Celena Raz- eng said in the past she had seen a car overtake on the inside of a vehicle turning into a driveway.
“I think the campaign needs to go on more often,” she said.
“There are pets and children and I think the speed board makes people aware they need to think and slow down.”
Albury highway patrol’s Sergeant Matt Zemaitis said the worst offender was a motorcyclist doing 126km/h in a 50km/h zone on Vickers Road.
“When you consider the volume of traffic on those roads, to only have 47 people detected speeding is quite pleasing,” Sgt Zemaitis said.
“But in saying that, you have 47 people who weren’t paying attention for whatever reason and that is disappointing.”
Albury Council road safety officer Lauren Musil said the council hoped to run the campaign each year.
“We will continue to rotate speed boards to make motorists aware of the speeds they are travelling,” she said.
