Freeman is set to play for the Thunder-dominated Group 9 All Stars against the Group 9 Indigenous-Maori team in the curtain-raiser to the Manly and Canberra Raiders match on Saturday.

Thunder coach Ben Jeffery said Freeman would be a huge asset.

“He’ll be really good for us,” Jeffery said.

“He will play on the left edge with Breusty (Cameron Breust) and take over from Jake Grace.

“We got on to Levi a couple of weeks ago and the boys have been in his ear ever since. I didn’t expect to get anyone late so we’re happy.”

Freeman’s arrival comes only weeks after brothers Mitch and Chris Seaton committed to play for Albury Thunder but on the downside Dubbo CYMS centre Alex Ronayne has walked out on the club.

The powerful backrower played with the Canberra Raiders under-20 squad in 2007 before being overlooked and dropped to the Canberra Raiders Cup competition where he has played for the West Belconnen Warriors and Queanbeyan Blues.

He also represented the Australian Schoolboys team against Great Britain in 2010.

Jeffery and Albury Thunder teammate Joe Silafau will play for a star-stuuded Group 9 Indigenous-Maori line-up with Junee’s Will Merritt, Peter Little and boom Cootamundra recruit Shannon Ruparere among their teammates.

The Group 9 All Stars are predominantly made up of Albury Thunder players including key signings Freeman and Andrew Smith.

Saturday’s curtain-raiser starts at 3.15pm.
