Despite losing back-to-back matches and having the longest injury list in the NRL, the Australian representative is confident the line-up can put its season back on track on the Border.
“We have had a lot of success to cheer about over the years and every club goes through these lulls,” Cherry-Evans said yesterday.
“It’s a two-game losing streak so let’s be realistic ... it’s not the end of the world.
“If fans want to jump and scream about it you can’t really call yourself a true fan can you.
“I’m sure the ones that mean the most to the club will be the ones who will be there supporting us no matter what the result.”
Cherry-Evans shrugged off concerns over his fitness despite being forced from the field under the NRL’s concussion rules in Manly’s 12-4 loss to St George-Illawarra last weekend.
He was hauled off WIN Stadium in the dying minutes in a situation coach Geoff Toovey labelled as “crazy”.
“I’m looking forward to playing in Albury,” he said.
“Unfortunately it’s a home game of ours that we have sacrificed but with that being said there is a lot more involved in travelling down to Albury.
“We have had consecutive losses and want to turn around.
“I think there is no better way to turn it around than on a big road trip down south.”
Despite having only one win from three matches and missing key players including Brenton Lawrence, Josh Starling, Feleti Mateo and Jamie Lyon, Cherry-Evans said he didn’t think the players had lost their way.
“Defensively we need to strengthen things up a little bit,” he said.
“We haven’t been on our
A game in recent weeks.
“Even though it was just one try at the weekend, we still felt the way they made their way down the field we need to limit the attacking options.
“It doesn’t matter who is in the side this weekend they need to do the best job they can to help us get the points.”
