With the Pigeons faced with the loss of key personnel, injuries and some top-class pre-season opposition, coach Brendan Fevola has admitted his introduction to coaching ranks hasn’t been all plain sailing.
“It might take us a while to hit our straps but I think we are going to be really dangerous when the whips are cracking,” Fevola said.
“I’m just excited to be coaching all these kids at the club.
“There are a lot of new faces in the side.”
While Yarrawonga’s lack of key defenders has been well documented over the summer with the loss of Connor Hargreaves and Marcus McMillan, the Hawks are unlikely to hurt them given their lack of height in attack.
Paul Maher’s biggest challenge will be negating the all-star cast of Fevola, Kayne Pettifer and Craig Ednie.
Tyson Hartwig has played Wodonga’s Daniel Bradshaw over the pre-season and looks the logical choice for Fevola but Pettifer and Ednie are unlikely to run into the same quality of opposition.
