Lou Dakos recently restored a 1909 Blackstone oil engine that had been sitting on a friend’s property for about 35 years.
“A mate let me take it home a few years ago and then it sat out the front of my place for some time,” he said.
“I finally got around to restoring the engine, which meant rebuilding some parts.”
Yesterday he sat back and enjoyed his work in progress as the engine let off some steam.
“People like looking at it because it’s an engine that has lots of bits that move,” Mr Dakos said.
The Border Steam and Oil Engine Club’s annual Easter event attracted more than 3500 people over the two days.
One of the highlights was Kevin Wadley riding a miniature locomotive.
Club president Peter Lawrence said it was a successful tradition that had no trouble attracting a large crowd.
“We had quite a large patronage of vintage cars this year,” he said.
