If the councils had been honest with ratepayers and had a referendum on this so-called composting system, it would not now be a reality.
If Cleanaway had been honest it would not now be a reality either.
Mayor Mack told me we have another 50 years at the landfill site prior to this system.
Why don’t the major capital cities have these great systems? Because they don’t work!
So the householders do their bit, Cleanaway collects it, and then Carbon Mate transport it to Wagga.
The same system in Sydney has the majority going to landfill, where it should be.
And what of the energy conversion at the Albury landfill that gives back to ratepayers in the form of royalties? In five to 10 years it will be obsolete.
Also, the ratepayers’ rewards from landfill will be lost, many, many dollars per year that would pay for the next library in Dean Street.
Think about it, ratepayers, and refuse to pay for something that is not required.
