Only five months after joining the Bulldogs, Hargreaves was released from his contract last week.
He shed almost 10 kilograms during his time with Central District.
Hargreaves would be a godsend for Yarrawonga’s defence, particularly after Damon Symes told the Pigeons this week he planned to join VFL club Coburg.
Central District swooped on Hargreaves following his starring role in Yarrawonga’s narrow grand final loss to Albury at Lavington Oval.
He became the first player to win the Did Simpson Medal in a losing team after blanketing Tiger giant Aisake O’hAilpin as well as providing strong run off half-back.
Yarrawonga was forced to dig deep to run down Wangaratta Rovers at Mulwala’s Lonsdale Reserve last weekend and will be without Craig Ednie for the next three weeks.
Ednie and premiership ruckman Steve McKee will be among a large contingent of Yarrawonga people travelling overseas for a wedding.
“Craig will be away for a month but will only miss three matches,” co-coach Brendan Fevola said.
“He’s going to be a big loss, but it opens another door for a kid to play.”
Skipper Tim Cooper will also miss tomorrow night’s tussle against Lavington with a leg injury.
The Panthers also have their worries with star veteran Matt Pendergast ruled out with a hand injury suffered last weekend.
He has been replaced by speedy youngster Jack Kirley, who is still eligible for thirds.
