That won’t be the case for Albury and Murray Bushrangers pair Nick Coughlan and Lachlan Tiziani.
They will make their state league debut with the UWS Giants reserves in the NEAFL against the Sydney Swans reserves tomorrow, running out onto the SCG no less.
The match is a curtain raiser to the senior clash later in the afternoon, but Coughlan and Tiziani will still be rubbing shoulders with some serious AFL talent.
Adam Goodes was named in the reserves for Sydney alongside senior players Brandon Jack and Tom Mitchell, while the Giants will be sporting a host of young talent.
The Albury duo will line up alongside the likes of Jed Lamb, Curtly Hampton and Tim Mohr, with Giants coach Brett Hand thrilled to have them in the team.
“We love getting our academy players into the NEAFL side, particularly some of the country players,” Hand said.
“Nick was with us last year for the AIS program, and I would have liked to have him playing here sooner, he was unlucky not to go in the draft I thought.
“He’s a good size, and should offer us plenty through the backline, he’s an impressive young player.
“Likewise Lachie Tiziani, he looks to be maturing pretty well, so having them both out on the SCG against quality opposition will be a good challenge for them.
“The Swans have got a lot of players that are a similar age to these two and the rest of our list.”
Murray Bushrangers talent manager Lee Fraser said the pair had earned their debuts.
“Nick Coughlan has approached his third year at the club with a terrific attitude, he is fit, working hard and demonstrating outstanding leadership across the backline,” Fraser said.
“Lachlan Tiziani has improved throughout the practice matches and has been a crucial player both defensively and offensively across the half back line, he uses the ball well and is super quick.”
