The Albury netball girls fought off a competitive Gippsland outfit in an entertaining grand final, claiming a thrilling one-goal victory.
Goal defence Molly Goldsworthy was named MVP, with co-coach Fiona Boyer thrilled to see the team’s hard work pay off.
“The girls really had to maintain their composure out there, the pressure was well and truly on all the way through,” she said.
“They stayed cool under intense pressure, stuck to the game plan and pulled it off really well.”
Quick ball movement was the key to the win, with Boyer praising her team’s commitment to each other.
“There’s a core group that have been together for a little while now, and all of them have a fantastic work ethic,” she said.
“Winning this really puts Albury on the map, to have travelled down and had an unbeaten run through the round robin stage of the tournament then win the final is a really incredible effort.
“The best part of it is we’ve only got three top-age girls in this team, the majority of them will be able to have a really good crack at defending the title next year.”
After making weekly trips to Shepparton to claim victory in the qualifying competition, Boyer, alongside co-coaches Jodie House and Paula Cary, was happy to see the team’s hard work pay off.
“It really took a lot to get through all the travel, we’ve had some fantastic sponsors who have made that a lot easier, but the girls really dug in and made it happen.”
