REIGNING premiers Albury have been smashed in premiership betting.
After just three rounds the Tigers have firmed from $1.60 to the prohibitive odds of $1.25 to go back-to-back.
CrownBet took one bet of $2000 at $1.60
Yesterday its communications manager Rob Cumbrae-Stewart said the Tigers looked bigger certainties than ever this season to claim their fifth flag in seven seasons.
“Albury at $1.25 is a very short price for any side, but off the back of their first three rounds, we can’t see them being beaten, hence why we have gone up so short,” Cumbrae-Stewart said.
“We opened them at $1.60 but off the back of some decent money coming for them and their smashing of sides early on in the year, we have wound them in to $1.25.
“The smart punters have jumped on board with bets of $2000 at $1.60, $700 at $1.40 and $500 at $1.30.”
Albury are showing no signs of a premiership hangover after thumping Myrtleford and Corowa-Rutherglen by over 10 goals in the first two rounds.
The Tigers were tested for the first time on Saturday night against Wangaratta when they were one-point down midway through the final quarter, before rallying to win by 21 points.
For the first time in six seasons, Lavington is considered the biggest danger to the Tiger juggernaut ahead of fierce rivals Yarrawonga.
The Panthers are second favourites at $4.50, with the Pigeon’s a $5.50-chance.
While no other side is considered a threat, Myrtleford is the best of the rest at $51.
“With the side that Albury is putting on the park week in and week out we can’t see them getting done,” he said.
“Yarrawonga have come up against some stiff opposition in the last couple of weeks, but we are thinking they will bounce back against Corowa-Rutherglen this weekend.”
