The question has to be asked — why didn’t they do the same before they inflicted the new garbage regime on us? Judging by letters to The Border Mail it is obvious that nobody likes or wants it.
We have always composted our vegetable scraps and will continue to do so, any meat scraps go to the dogs next door, therefore we have no need for a new bin.
We get the impression that this whole exercise has been motivated by Cleanaway for the benefit of Cleanaway and too bad for the mug ratepayers who have to pay for it.
It states on the side of the bin that it belongs to the council, therefore why should the ratepayers have to pay for it?
If we have to pay for the bin, are we going to get the fee rebated when the council gets their profit from the compost?
It is no doubt too late to do anything about it now but it’s a pity they didn’t consult us before they jumped on the Cleanaway bandwagon.
Also, why don’t they use the composting facility in Wodonga; is it because Cleanaway wants to have sole access to any money to be made from it?
We should not be treated like mushrooms, we should have a say in what is happening to our rates.
