Wodonga Diamonds won’t be putting too much pressure on themselves when they come up against Boomers FC tomorrow in their first proper hit-out in a month.

Full-back Bonnie Denison lamented their lack of match practice.
“The last three or four weeks we haven’t had a game, and our only really good one was against Melrose back in round 1, so we haven’t really had a proper run on the ball yet,” Denison said.
“It will be good to see where we’re at against Boomers.”
The lack of match practice had led to a disappointing run at training, but Denison wasn’t worried by the fitness of the Diamonds.
“Training has been a little bit slack, but we’re a young side with plenty of energy, so fitness shouldn’t be a problem,” she said.
“We have a strong bench and no injuries to speak of, we just haven’t had a proper kick of the ball for a while.
“It’s always a good quality game against the Boomers, we consider it to be the biggest match of the season.”
With key losses in the off-season, including starting goalkeeper Meredith Quick, Denison said the Diamonds were focusing on developing their younger players.
“We’ve changed a lot this year, and we’ve brought in a few of the younger girls,” she said.
“Finals aren’t on the radar for us at the moment, we just want to be competitive.
“We’re not looking to put too much pressure on ourselves.”
Their opponents are looking to capitalise on some recent good form, but the Boomers’ Jenae Abel said her team still had plenty of work to do.
“We’re still yet to play Albury United and Melrose after Diamonds, so we’ve still got plenty of challenges ahead of us,” Abel said.
“But it has been good to have some consistency in the last couple of games.”
