Donation tins have been placed in his Buddha Shop in Albury and at Yackandandah and some of the proceeds from the shop will go to helping the cause.
More than 1800 people have been killed after the 7.9-magnitude earthquake struck.
Mr Hayward said the Border had a rich Bhutanese community and this was the first step towards lending a hand.
“The devastation and destruction is huge, people will need to rebuild the infrastructure and it’s up to Australians to help,” he said.
“It’s hard at the moment because communications are down.”
Mr Hayward said wool products like jackets for the store all came from Nepal.
“It’s just horrific what has happened over there and it’s only early days,” he said.
“There’s the threat of aftershocks and people are sleeping in open spaces.”
