Boomers recruit Maddi Harris had opened the scoring in the first 15 minutes from a corner but last year’s league champions adapted to a half-time reshuffle to dominate much of the second half.
Former Albury City striker Molly Goldsworthy was the focal point for Diamonds and it was her work that led to the equaliser.
Goldsworthy was able to keep the ball out of the clutches of an advancing Boomers keeper and then find Grace Gill in space on the edge of the box.
Gill made no mistake slotting the ball into the back of the net.
Coach Tony Cigana said it was a huge effort against the frontrunners and with his side having not played for four weeks.
He said Bonnie Denison and Bree Buckingham were also among their best.
“We had the ball in the air too much in the first half and they were cutting us up on the wings,” Cigana said.
“But it is a sign of the maturity of this squad that they adapted to the change of structure, going from a 3-3-4 to a 2-4-4.
Boomers Jenae Abel said a few injuries had depleted their squad.
