St John’s Anglican Church in Wodonga will host the gathering, which Reverend Grace Sharon described as a way for people here to gather and pray as the devastation from the quake continues.
The Border is home to a large number of refugees from Nepal and Bhutan, as well as many people who have volunteered their time in the quake-ravaged country, where the death toll is still climbing.
Those volunteers have included members of the St John’s congregation.
“There’s been a outpouring of grief this week... I thought this could be a way for people to come together and bring it to the forefront of people’s minds,” she said.
“There are still lots of areas that don’t have any food or communication.”
The vigil will begin at 5pm. People are invited to come and light a candle for those lost, and pray.
