The back-to-back cup champions were no match for the visitors at La Trobe after going into half-time at 1-1.
After the break the Savoys created chance after chance with only the reflexes of keeper Stefan Galanakis keeping Diamonds in the contest but even he was found wanting in the end in the 3-1 loss.
Arron Redman and Dan Kelly produced some quality up front for Myrtleford in a second half where the ball rarely travelled into Diamonds attacking third.
Myrtleford coach Joe Artavilla said their second halves had been dominant all year.
“We just need to be better in the first half,” he said.
“We scored some good goals in the second half and the only difference between that and the first 45 minutes was that we weren’t hungry enough — we had plenty of opportunities, it was just a matter of time
“Redman has been good all year and Kelly is working his way to peak fitness but we can get better — we have three or four players to come back into the side.”
Diamonds Jamie Marcuzzi said they were struggling with injuries — Jarrid Herzina a notabe absentee yesterday.
“I can’t remember the club having so many injuries early in the year,” he said.
At Alexandra Park Albury City thrashed St Pats 6-1 — Paddy Brown on the scoresheet four times.
“He’s so quick that he is a handful for even the best defences,” City defender Aaron Gough said.
“But there were plenty who stood up today — Matt Hogan in defence was solid, while it was great to see Trent Duffy back in his first senior game after breaking a leg last year.”
