District 24 duty officer Ashley Mills said the brigade was called to the Shell service station, on Melbourne Road, at 11.25am following reports pumps 5 and 6 were leaking.
A number of people were evacuated from the site but the scene was "under control" within a few minutes.
Mr Mills said the Office of Gas Safety had been contacted and gas flare-off units from Wangaratta had arrived on the scene.
"The flare-off unit use a special machine to draw off liquid from the cylinder so they can light up the gas ... allowing them to burn it off in a controlled manner," Mr Mills said.
"It produces a flame about 3-feet long ... but isn't a real complex issue in our eyes. It's something our crews manage quite regularly."
