Wodonga CFA crews were called to the corner of Felltimber Creek Road and Lambourn Drive about 9.30pm on Friday.
The Kia Carnival was fully alight by the time they arrived, forcing firefighters to use breathing appartus to avoid inhaling the damaging fumes.
Two trucks and eight firefighters were required to put out the blaze.
Wodonga CFA station officer Brett Myers said crews had responded to several such incidents in recent weeks.
This one had occurred unusually early in the evening, as car fires most often took place in the middle of the night or very early morning, he said.
“We’re definitely having a bit of a spate of them at the moment,” he said.
