While the Bushrangers went on to beat Sandringham Dragons 14.11 (95) to 7.7 (49) at the Norm Minns Oval, a sluggish start wasn’t what coach Darren Ogier wanted to see.

But, holding on to a one-point lead at the main break, the Bushies took a renewed sense of purpose in the second half.

“A six day break from a game in the wet maybe had something to do with the first half,” Ogier said.

“It was a disappointing first half in terms of out skill use and basic errors, and our decision making was not up to the expected standard.

“And we certainly let them back into the game when they had the ball.

“But we made a few adjustments at half-time and that certainly helped and I was certainly very happy with the second half, we were much more efficient with the ball and going forward.

“There’s still work to be done but three in a row is very pleasing going into a break.”

The Bushies soon kicked into gear to put in an impressive display, kicking 10 goals to the Dragons’ three in the second half.

Nullifying their attack, Albury’s Nick Coughlan put in a solid effort in the Bushies’ back line, along with Myrtleford’s Brady Sharp and Lavington’s Ryan Garthwaite.

“They all played really well all day down back,” Ogier said.

Meanwhile, Albury’s Zachary Sproule impressed in his first outing for the Bushrangers.

“He was really lively particularly in his first stint on the ground,” Ogier said.

“He’s shown he’s going to be able to have an impact if he continues to work hard offensively and defensively.”

The win puts the Bushies second on the ladder behind North Ballarat Rebels, but Ogier wants more consistency for his group.
