Former big name Ovens and Murray players Brett Doswell and Josh Maher headline a star-studded line-up which also includes John Spencer, Chris Taylor, Jesse Johnston, Alex Jones, Simon Hillier, Jeremy Stevenson and Justin Mesman.
Josh Walker, who will coach the league for the second successive season, said he was rapt with the team, which will be finalised after training at Jindera tonight.
“The only casualties from the original squad are Beau Walker, Adam Eady, Sam Rutland and Zac Stuart,” Walker said.
“The players we have selected gives us a great spine and some strong leadership.
“Last year’s side was a real turnaround from previous years with some great commitment and good numbers to choose from, and that was reflective in the overall result against the Picola league.
“This year we have probably had a few too many players pull out, which was a real disappointment.
“More so for them not to involve themselves, but we have secured the bulk of the key players we wanted playing.
“So I feel this year’s side is a little stronger than previous years and much more balanced.”
The Hume league was embarrassed two years ago when a second-rate outfit received a humiliating 97-point drubbing at the hands of the Tallangatta and District league in one of its darkest representative days.
It took the first step towards redemption with a convincing 70-point win over Picola North-West last year.
Walker said it was important for the league to take another step forward on Saturday.
“This year is all about consolidation,” he said.
“It was great for the Hume league to get back on the winners’ list, but the previous year doesn’t mean anything unless you can consolidate it with another win.
“Representative football is about putting your best foot forward for the league and enhancing its reputation as a strong football league.
“That only happens if you win games like these year in year out.”
Community radio station OAKFM 101.3 will provide a live and exclusive broadcast of the match from 1pm.
