Border-Walwa is arguably the worst team in country football, winless for three years and on a 47-match losing streak.
The Magpies will get few better chances to break their drought than against the Demons on Saturday.
Corryong made the decider last year but has been rocked by the departure of more than a dozen players from its grand final team and are also yet to win a game this season.
Star forward Adrian Rijnbeek is one of the few 2014 Demons still at the club and will need to be stopped if Border-Walwa is to break through.
The Magpies also had a huge turnover of players over the summer, with only a handful remaining from the team that has been the league’s whipping boy for the past three years.
Although the Magpies have been a lot more competitive in the opening rounds than previous seasons, coach Tony Brennan is far from satisfied.
“A lot of people are saying we have improved, but we are not happy about losing our first three games this season,” Brennan said.
“It’s been frustrating to be honest.
“Apart from the Cudgewa game, we have been in winning positions and just haven’t been able to land the knockout blow.
“We have played some good footy and our best footy is capable of winning but we just haven’t done it for long enough during games.”
Brennan said only five players remained from last year’s team.
“We are a young, quick side and have added Craig Bosley and Mark Lazzarotto, who boast a lot of experience and provide on-field leadership,” he said.
“We are probably just lacking a few players in their mid-20s, which every side needs.
“Everyone is quick to tell us that this is our best chance of breaking our drought against Corryong.
“We won’t be taking Corryong for granted — I can assure you of that.”
Cudgewa should extend its unbeaten start to the season against Tumbarumba at home.
Undefeated Federal will start favourite when it travels to Bullioh.
