The money will allow Corowa Whisky and Chocolates to install a second still, helping it to kickstart the whisky side of the business.
The owners have produced a feasibility study that suggests the distillery will attract at least 250,000 people a year once it is operating.
The distillery will use barley grown in the Corowa area to make whisky.
The managing director of Corowa Whisky, Dean Druce, said there was great potential in the project to lure many outside visitors, adding an important tourism attraction to the region.
Already, 25 jobs have been created as the business gears up and 10 more will be added when the distillery is fully operational.
The program is providing strong support for successful businesses wanting to go to the next level with money for Frauenfelder Rural Manufacturing, Walla’s Kotzur Pty Ltd and St Paul’s Secondary College.
Using a relatively small amount of money to help businesses is a good move by the federal and NSW governments.
