ON a recent visit to Albury my wife and I encountered problems while traversing along your footpaths, as my wife is in a wheelchair.

The problem is the ramps that lead off the streets onto the footpaths. The ramps have about a 35mm lip, all ramps are not uniform some are even higher then 35mm.
This makes it difficult for a wheelchair to ascend smoothly up the ramp, practically as the front wheels being only less then 200mm in diameter.
This makes it a very uncomfortable ride also, as she needs to speed up to cross the road on time.
There was on instant when my wife’s chair become stuck on entering a ramp off the street, this left her and the chair protruding out onto the road, as cars were turning the corner at the intersection.
This was an extremely dangerous situation as in a chair it’s not as easy to move quickly out of the way.
My wife had to turn on the road so she could reverse up the ramp.
Albury is a wonderful and welcoming city, we are contemplating spending more time there but it’s pity some Albury streets are wheelchair unfriendly.
