The problem however stems from a nearby soccer ground as well as access to students and public in the general area, as the culverts fill with waste products and every time it rains it creates a back wash. This is a continual process repeated over time.
During the past 12 months I have conversed with the facility coordinator at La Trobe University concerning this matter.
The possibility of a grate being constructed to cover the opening and hold back waste was discussed but to date nothing has come to fruition.
I have suggested on several occasions the ground staff could monitor the problem and try to keep the pond fairly clean from litter.
This has also fallen on deaf ears and the matter has been left in limbo and the “too hard basket”.
During my last discussion on the matter I was informed that nothing could be done in regard to keeping the area clean and that the matter was closed.
This is a great disappointment to me as La Trobe University supports environment and sustainability, which to me would include keeping the pond in good condition for the wild life that is found there.
You should practice what you preach and look after your own back yard and preserve this beautiful section of La Trobe University.
