Chairman of the Indi electorate conference Tony Scheidner, was recently reported as saying the party was keen to know what votes wanted from their representatives and would start a “community consultation program” that would involve listening posts, telephone canvassing, door-knocking and an online survey.
Voters had indicated they wanted a ‘direct voice to government’ he said.
Liberals for Indi, Karen Rourke, reportedly also said “job opportunities, education and training and support for families and small business were issues raised at a “listening post”.
Listening to the concerns of the electorate, how novel, how refreshing from the Liberal Party.
But then we find the previously failed Liberal candidate Sophie Mirabella has indicated she will seek pre-selection to again be the Liberal Party’s candidate for the seat at next year’s election.
Given the previous track record of Mrs Mirabella when it comes to listening to the concerns of the electorate and her diminishing popularity, will the Liberal Party actually stick to what it said it would do and seek a “direct voice to government”? Or will it revert to the same old tired and negative politics of the past?
Interesting times ahead.
