All Saints Estate, Campbells Wines, Chambers Rosewood Winery, Morris Wines, Pfeiffer Wines, Rutherglen Estates and Stanton and Killeen Wines will feature in the regional tour involving some of the leading wine buyers from 10 Asian countries.
It is the first large-scale trade event specific to Victoria’s wine industry that brings investors into the region.
Winemakers of Rutherglen chairwoman Wendy Killeen said the event was a valuable opportunity to network and make connections.
“It is important people look to invest here and for them to come into our region and see how well we do things,” Ms Killeen said.
“A lot of us wouldn’t get this opportunity otherwise, it introduces us to organisations we wouldn’t usually get to know.
“It means we might pick up export sales and naturally more sales means we could expand and take on more staff.”
The program includes export-ready wineries and will begin today running until Thursday.
It will involve networking events, a trade exposition, a history tour of Rutherglen along with plenty of sampling.
Ms Killeen said wineries are putting their best foot forward to impress more than 150 wholesalers, importers, sommeliers, restaurant owners and international journalists during their time in the region.
“We will have a sit down dinner where we will talk business, drink our wine and eat our local food,” she said.
“This is really the first time for a very long time the Victorian government has got behind a trade event like this.”
The Victorian government also set aside $1 million in the 2015-16 budget to develop the Victorian Wine Tourism Strategy and a Wine Industry Ministerial Advisory Group.
Member for Northern Victoria Steve Herbert said the program was part of a plan that would help our wine region to grow.
“This is an opportunity to capture the attention of international buyers,” he said.
