Principal Heather Sarau said yesterday that earlier claims online about “gunshots” at the school were totally unsubstantiated.
“Had I had the opportunity to confirm the facts on Friday, I would have advised that our school went into lock-down as a standard precaution following a physical altercation in class,” Mrs Sarau said.
“Victoria Police were immediately contacted and are now investigating the incident.”
Mrs Sarau said counselling support had been provided to the affected students and staff and would continue to be available for any student who may need it.
“Our school does not tolerate aggressive behaviour and what happened on Friday was completely out of character for our students,” she said.
“This isolated incident will not distract us from our focus on providing a quality education to every young person in our school, to support them to achieve their personal best.”
Sgt Glenn Smith of Wangaratta police said the boy, 15, would appear in a Victorian Children’s Court at a later date.
He said the investigation had been completed but police would continue to support the welfare of students and staff.
