Shepherd had been friends with the victim for eight years and met his girlfriend through their association.
The two men, Shepherd’s girlfriend and another woman were all seriously affected by alcohol after having a party in East Albury on May 1 and into the early hours the next morning.
It was about 1.10am when the woman made sexual advances to the victim which angered Shepherd, who became jealous.
He confronted the victim and punched towards his head numerous times, but only connected with one blow.
The victim walked away towards his unit in Alexandra Street and Shepherd approached holding a wine bottle by the neck in his right hand.
He swung the bottle towards the victim three times, but did not connect and the victim was at the doorway to his residence.
Shepherd swung a fourth time and the bottle broke on the door frame.
He was holding the neck of the bottle, the victim pushed him backwards and Shepherd lunged inside the doorway.
The victim was stabbed in the right jaw and later required six stitches to his wound.
Shephered, 28, of Alldis Avenue, Lavington, pleaded guilty in Albury Local Court yesterday to a charge of reckless wounding.
“This is really serious. He is not going to be dealt with today,” magistrate Tony Murray said.
Mr Murray adjourned sentencing until July 30 and ordered a pre-sentence report.
Tendered police facts outlined the circumstances of the wounding and indicate the victim did not feel it, but thought he had been stabbed.
He began punching Shephered in the head to stop any further assault before forcing his door shut.
The victim made a triple-0 call and while doing so Shepherd was out the front threatening him and kicking the front door.
Police arrived and arrested Shepherd.
