Trained by David O’Prey, This Is The Show, who has won at Bendigo and Wodonga, will contest the $30,000 Benchmark 70 Handicap (1209m).
O’Prey believes This Is The Show could be the best horse he has trained and hopes the trip to Seymour will prove to be another stepping stone to bigger races.
“If he gets the right sort of run and his fair share of luck, I’m sure he will prove ultra-competitive,” O’Prey said.
O’Prey said although This Is The Show was blessed with plenty of natural ability, the four-year-old still had a tendency to over-race.
This was no more evident than last start when This Is The Show surged to the lead mid-race at Wodonga after jockey Linda Meech couldn’t restrain the gelding.
Steve Arnold takes the mount today after one previous ride on This Is The Show — a third during his three-year-old season.
“Steve is renowned for having the best hands in the business, so if anyone can get the horse to settle it will be him,” he said.
“Hopefully, there will be plenty of speed on in the race — that would help his cause.
“After scratchings, he should jump from barrier 8 and Steve should be able to settle just off the speed.
“Coming back to 1200 metres suits, and hopefully the tempo is a bit quicker than it was when he won at Wodonga the other day.”
O’Prey said the Peter White-trained Inspector looked the hardest to beat after running second behind Charles In Charge at Caulfield at his most recent start.
Inspector is quoted as the $3.80 favourite in pre-post markets with This Is The Show on the fifth line of betting as a $9 chance.
It’s Poets Day will also race at Seymour today, in the $30,000 Benchmark 70 Handicap (1009m) for Berrigan trainer Emma Steel.
The five-year-old mare resumes from a 29-week spell and has two minor placings from three previous first-up attempts.
