Almond arrives at Birallee Park less than a fortnight after being sacked by the Bombers, with co-president Will Hood citing irreconcilable differences as the reason behind the shock sacking.
Raiders coach Daryn Cresswell said he had approached Almond last week about being an assistant after initially trying to lure him to the club over the summer.
“I had conversations with Marc during the pre-season when I first got appointed about coming on board at Raiders,” Cresswell said.
“He decided he still had the passion to be senior coach at Dederang-Mount Beauty and remained with the club.
“When I heard about his sacking, I jumped straight on the phone and made contact with him.
“We are all about development at the Raiders and I see Marc as the perfect fit as far as educating and developing our young kids.
“I rate him very highly and he has got a great football knowledge and he will add a certain amount of experience and professionalism.”
Almond attended training for the first time on Monday night and is set to start his new position against Wangaratta Rovers at Birallee Park on Saturday.
He said he was excited to be stepping into coaching at senior Ovens and Murray level.
“I really looking forward to working with Cressa and seeing what he is about and how he goes about it,” Almond said.
“It’s exciting to get the opportunity to learn off a guy who obviously has been in coaching at the elite level.
“I wasn’t ready to stop coaching and I’m just grateful for the opportunity.
“I guess the first couple of weeks I will spend meeting everyone and learning the game plan.”
