Club officials are unaware of a husband and wife winning the club’s prestige awards in the same year.
There have been other instances of husbands and wives each winning the singles title, but in separate years.
David, 67, was runner-up in the men’s singles championship for six or seven years.
But he finally broke through for victory in the event last year.
This year he made it successive singles crowns by defeating John McDonnell 31-25 in the final.
Chris, 61, played as a third in grade 3 pennant in the recent season.
In the singles final, she defeated Trish Drummond 25-18.
David has been playing bowls for “33 or 34 years” after giving up cricket when living in Adelaide.
He played division 1 pennant there before deciding to move to the Albury region 12 years ago.
“I have to be honest, Chris talked me into it,” he said.
They had a daughter living here, another daughter living in Melbourne and their son living elsewhere in NSW.
So the location was ideal to make family visits, with travelling reduced considerably.
David said one of the stipulations of him coming to Albury was his wife take up playing bowls.
He has been a regular selection in the Albury and District Bowling Association’s representative team.
- NORTH Albury’s Rob Parks and Norm Honey won the Albury District’s champion of champion pairs title at the weekend.
They had a 19-14 success against the Howlong combination of Phil Slater and Wally Bourne in the final at Walla.
Parks and Honey qualified for the final with a 30-12 victory against Lavington Panthers’ Tom Carroll and Les Waldon.
The North Albury pair established an early lead to set up a handy buffer, but sealed the outcome with a maximum eight shots on the 19th end.
Slater and Bourne won their semi-final 21-15 against the Oaklands team of Ron Bonat and Mark Sutcliffe.
